What is a BXZ file?

A .BXZ file is a Balabolka Text Document file.

Balabolka Text Document is a format used by Balabolka, a Windows text-to-speech program developed by Ilya Morozov, for saving documents that combine the visible text with the speech settings Balabolka uses (such as voice, speed, pitch, volume). When stored in its standard form, the document has an XML-based structure that includes user-entered text, pronunciation correction rules, and metadata for how speech is rendered.

The compressed version of this format bundles the XML text document plus its audio configuration into a compressed (ZIP-based) archive so that all content and settings travel together in a single file. This compressed variant was added to Balabolka in version 2.15.0.686 (released on February 9, 2019) as the native format for saving Balabolka documents in compressed form.

Files in this format begin with the ASCII signature indicating a ZIP archive (bytes PK at offset 0), include an internal file content.xml (found around offset 30), and contain strings such as CONTENT.XML and MIMETYPEK embedded internally.

How to open BXZ files

Important: Different programs may use files with the BXZ file extension for different purposes, so unless you are sure which format your BXZ file is, you may need to try a few different programs.
