What is a BXB file?

A .BXB file is a BasicX Compiled Bytecode file.

BasicX Compiled Bytecode files store a binary executable version of a program written in the BasicX language. They are created by the BasicX Programming Environment by NetMedia, Inc. when a BasicX project is compiled for download to its target microcontroller. Such files are used to transfer and run a BasicX program on hardware rather than for editing or viewing source code.

The BasicX compiler produces bytecode that is meant to be executed by the BasicX runtime on devices such as the BX-24 microcontroller. After compilation the bytecode file is combined with a preferences file (PRF) which holds configuration data like I/O pin states and other setup parameters before downloading both to the device.

Internal identification of the format includes a byte signature: the first byte is 0x6F at offset zero and the sequence 0x7F000000 starting at offset 3, which helps software detect that a file is indeed BasicX Compiled Bytecode.

How to open BXB files

Important: Different programs may use files with the BXB file extension for different purposes, so unless you are sure which format your BXB file is, you may need to try a few different programs.
