What is a BXL file?

A .BXL file is an Accelerated Designs PCB Library file.

An Accelerated Designs PCB Library file with extension .BXL is a proprietary binary component-library format used by Ultra Librarian to distribute electronic component CAD data. It is created by semiconductor manufacturers (or their design partners) via the Ultra Librarian software or platform. Its purpose is to package together, for a single component, all data needed for schematic and layout design - such as the schematic symbol (pins, logic types, etc.), the PCB land pattern/footprint (pads, silkscreen, copper, courtyard), and optionally a 3D STEP model. Designers use it by loading it into Ultra Librarian Reader or its Online Reader, and exporting into whatever PCB CAD format they need.

The .BXL format is vendor-neutral: it allows chip manufacturers like Analog Devices, Texas Instruments, Microchip, NXP, STMicroelectronics, and others to provide pre-verified component data that works with many EDA tools. Once a .BXL file is downloaded, the Ultra Librarian Reader application opens it in read mode, and the user chooses an output format compatible with their CAD software. Designers often edit the exported symbol or footprint in their CAD tool afterward, using Ultra Librarian's desktop tiers or their own CAD toolset.

Technically, this format is a proprietary, binary container (rather than text-based) with no published specification for third-party parsing. File sizes typically run from a few kilobytes for simple passive parts to several hundred kilobytes for complex components with detailed 3D models. One internal identifier is a byte signature: at offset 3 the sequence of bytes 0x001A160450A8328B008AC03CBC292828 appears.
