What is a BIT file?
BIT files have multiple uses, and Bit Archiver compressed archive is one of them. Read more about the other uses further down the page.
Bit Archiver compressed archive
These BIT files are compressed files created by Osman Turan. BIT gives a high compression ratio with acceptable speeds.
How to open BIT files
Important: Different programs may use files with the BIT file extension for different purposes, so unless you are sure which format your BIT file is, you may need to try a few different programs.
While we have not verified the apps ourselves yet, our users have suggested three different BIT openers which you will find listed below.

While Bit Archiver compressed archive is a popular type of BIT-file, we know of 3 different uses of the .BIT file extension. Different software may use files with the same extension for different types of data.
Lotus Manuscript Bitmap
We know that one BIT format is Lotus Manuscript Bitmap. We have not yet analyzed in detail what these files contain and what they are used for. We're working on it.
Xilinx Bitstream
We know that one BIT format is Xilinx Bitstream. We have not yet analyzed in detail what these files contain and what they are used for. We're working on it.
