What is a BGDB file?

A .BGDB file is a Global Virtual Accademy E-learning file.

The Global Virtual Accademy e-learning file (.BGDB) stores interactive lesson content created for use with GVAStudent software, part of the Global Virtual Academy system. Instructors record lectures using text, audio, whiteboard graphics, scripted pages and media. Students later open the BGDB file to play back the full multimedia lesson in the GVAStudent program.

A BGDB file is written by the course-authoring component of Global Virtual Academy and is never meant to be edited manually. Students access it through GVAStudent, which decodes the embedded HTML-style tags and media so the audio, graphics, and whiteboard content display in sync with written sections. Playback includes controls over time-base, navigation between sections, and possibly media rate (audio/video).

Inside, a BGDB file begins with a byte 0x42 ("B") at offset 0, followed by mostly zeroes, plus internal markers like "BODY", "HEAD", "META", "CONTENT-TYPE", image filenames (for example "COPYRIGHT.GIF" or "BEOOM-LOGO.GIF"), font names (e.g. "TIMES NEW ROMAN"), "TITLE", "AUTHOR", and media references such as ".AUDIO" and ".TEXT", all of which identify lesson structure, fonts, audio tracks, and image assets.
