What are BAN files and how to open them

What is a BAN file?

A .BAN file is a PrintPartner Banner file.

PrintPartner Banner is a file format used by the PrintPartner program, a shareware application for MS-DOS developed by Acropolis Software, to create printable banners. It packages design elements - text, fonts, graphics, layout information - into a file which the program later reads back in order to render and print signs, banners, calendars, greeting cards and similar print projects.

PrintPartner writes these files itself; they are not generic bitmaps but include design metadata such as how many lines of text, what fonts to use, graphics at ends of banners, placement of images, and layout directives. When the user reopens a project in PrintPartner or sends it to a printer via the program, the data in a PrintPartner Banner file controls the formatting, appearance, and arrangement of the finished print.

Files using this format begin with a distinctive byte signature: at offset zero, the sequence 7E 2A 21 0D 0A (ASCII "~*!␍␊"). This signature allows file-identification tools to recognize them unambiguously among other files.

How to open BAN files

Important: Different programs may use files with the BAN file extension for different purposes, so unless you are sure which format your BAN file is, you may need to try a few different programs.
