What are ARTASK files and how to open them

What is an ARTASK file?

An .ARTASK file is a Remedy User Tool Shortcut file.

Remedy User Tool Shortcut files act like clickable pointers that open a specific Remedy User client application or one of its entry points, so users can go directly to a particular form, search, or active-link guide without navigating menus. These shortcuts are made by BMC Remedy's Developer tools and meant to be distributed to users to simplify launching parts of Remedy without forcing them to select the application manually.

The BMC Remedy User Tool produces these shortcuts. Developers or administrators use the Create Shortcut or Send To shortcut features in Remedy Developer Studio or the Remedy Administrator console to write such a shortcut. Once created, the User Tool (also called "Remedy User") on client machines reads the shortcut and uses its internal references - like application name, ticket form, or server - to launch the right interface or entry point inside Remedy.

Internally, the file starts with the ASCII characters "[Shortcut]" at byte offset 0, and contains fields labelled SHORTCUT, SERVER, TICKET, NAME, and TYPE. These identifiers allow the Remedy software to parse the file and determine which application, form, or task to open.

How to open ARTASK files

Important: Different programs may use files with the ARTASK file extension for different purposes, so unless you are sure which format your ARTASK file is, you may need to try a few different programs.
