What is an AP6 file?

An .AP6 file is a Norton PcAnywhere Automated Procedures file.

Norton pcAnywhere Automated Procedures files store scripted "automated procedure" sequences used by the pcAnywhere remote-control and online-service program. They contain the instructions that pcAnywhere executes when performing unattended or repeat remote operations.

These files are generated by Norton pcAnywhere, exported as part of its script or automation tools. The software writes them so that it can automatically perform tasks such as dialing, logging in, executing menus, or starting sessions without further manual input.

Every file of this kind begins with the ASCII header string "NortonpcANYWHEREAutomatedProcedures" at the very start of the data. This signature helps identification of the format. PMID: the file name typically follows pcAnywhere's naming scheme: "AWuserid.AP6", where "userid" is up to six characters (underscored to eight total), marking them as personal automated-procedure files.

How to open AP6 files

Important: Different programs may use files with the AP6 file extension for different purposes, so unless you are sure which format your AP6 file is, you may need to try a few different programs.
