What are ALP files and how to open them

Are you having problems opening an ALP file or are you simply curious about its contents? We're here to explain the properties of these files and provide you with software that can open or handle your ALP files.

What is an ALP file?

An .ALP file is an AnyLogic Project file.

AnyLogic Project files store complete simulation models created using AnyLogic simulation software. They capture everything that defines how a model behaves: what agents it uses, how experiments run, model parameters, visual layouts, time units, and references to external media and data needed for the simulation.

The files are written by the AnyLogic Company's AnyLogic software when you save a model. Designers create or modify simulations in the program's graphical and scripting interface, then export all project content into this format for future editing, sharing or execution. To run or work with such a model, you open the file in AnyLogic, which reads the simulation definitions, animation settings, agent structures and linked resources.

Internally the format is XML-based and often begins with an XML declaration like <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>. Key metadata stored in the file include workspace version, AnyLogic software version, active object classes, experiments, parameters and properties. Byte signatures such as the opening "<?xmlversion…" declaration and XML tags like ANYLOGICWORKSPACE, SIMULATIONEXPERIMENT, ACTIVEOBJECTCLASSES, ANYLOGICVERSION help identify the file format.
