What are JPE files and how to open them

Are you having problems opening a JPE file or are you simply curious about its contents? We're here to explain the properties of these files and provide you with software that can open or handle your JPE files.

What is a JPE file?

A .JPE file is a JPEG raster image file.

The .jpe file extension is used on compressed image files, but more commonly these types of image files use the .jpeg file extension.

Often bitmap images are saved in .jpe format in order to reduce the size of the files. However, JPEG is a lossy file format, which means that image quality is reduced if you compress the image too much. For JPE files, the compression level is usually a setting in the software producing the file.
