What is a 602 file?

T602 Document

A T602 Document (file extension .602) is a document created by the DOS-era word processor Text602 (often called T602), developed by Software602 (originally under the group around Svazarm). It was widely used in the Czech and Slovak regions during the early 1990s for producing formatted text in national alphabets, creating letters, forms, contracts, tables, and other everyday office documents. It runs on IBM PC compatible computers under DOS, supports graphics modes, national character sets, printer definitions, and layouts with bold, italics, underline, superscript and subscript, using monospaced fonts for both editing and printing.

Text602 typically writes files in its native .602 format when saving or exporting work done in the Text602 editor. These documents can later be opened, displayed, printed or converted to other formats (such as RTF or DOC) using utilities such as T602view, PC Suite 602, or import filters for more modern software. The format retains text with formatting commands, embedded tables, layout parameters, and images as supported by the version of Text602 used.

Files in this format begin with the ASCII header "@CT " at offset zero which signals to compatible software that the file is in T602's native format.
