What is a 3G2 file?

A .3G2 file is a 3GPP2 multimedia audio/video file.

Files with the .3G2 extension are multimedia files. This particular file format was developed by the 3rd Generation Partnership Project, also known as 3GPP, which is a group of seven standard development organizations.

The files with the .3g2 file extension are based on the MPEG-4 standard. The .3G2 format was created for mobile phones on CDMA networks in order to deliver and play media over high-speed wireless connections.

The .3GP format, which is similar to the .3G2 format, is what is used for cell phones on GSM networks. While most cell phones only allow for the playback of .3G2 files, some are now allowing the recording of these files as well.
