What is a 24 file?

A .24 file is a TAG Font file.

TAG Font files (extension .24, also .40 or .9) store bitmap font data for Polish TAG/TIG "czcionka TAG" fonts used in older computer systems and printer utilities. They hold pre-rasterised character shapes rather than scalable outlines, so the font appears pixel-oriented and fixed to certain resolutions.

These fonts were produced for tasks like low-cost printing, simple graphics displays or imprinting text in environments where speed and consistency were more important than smooth curves or high resolutions. They are not used by modern TrueType or OpenType font engines but by legacy software that expects these compact bitmap fonts.

The internal format can be identified by a header signature. The very start of the file (byte offset 0) begins with the ASCII letters "TAG.D"; another signature "czcionkaTAG/TIG2.00" appears at byte offset 50; the phrase "CZCIONKA TAG" also appears within. These distinguish TAG Font files from other formats.

How to open 24 files
