XULRunner

If you are looking for XULRunner, you have come to the right place. We explain what XULRunner is and point you to the official download.

What is XULRunner?

XULRunner is software that provides a runtime environment for XUL-based programs. The software was developed by Mozilla Foundation to provide a runtime system for their applications such as Mozilla Firefox, Thunderbird, Songbird, SeaMonkey and Flickr Uploader.

XULRunner provides a backend support for the mentioned Mozilla applications during the install or uninstall process of the apps, as well as updates and upgrades for the applications.

The application was developed to replace Gecko, also a runtime system from Mozilla. XULRunner however, is integrated with some of the features originally provided n Gecko, such as XPCOM, which is the cross-platform COM of Mozilla; Gecko rendering engine, XMLHttpRequest, and DOMParser.

It also includes Application Programming Interfaces (APIs) such as extension manager and a find toolbar on top of the APIs for installing/uninstalling and updating/upgrading XUL-based applications. Developers are working on including an auto-updater and IPC services to provide a communication gateway between Gecko-enabled applications.
