What is Sound Forge?

Sonic Foundry Sound Forge is software from Sony Creative Software that is used to edit audio files. The software is now known as Sony Sound Forge and has evolved into a full suite of audio editing programs. The Sound Forge suite includes three versions of the software: Sound Forge Audio Studio, Sound Forge Pro and Sound Forge Pro Mac.

Basic functions of the software are recording and editing audio files, and restoration of music files from vinyl records and cassette tapes. With the Vinyl Recording and Restoration application, the user can digitize their analog music files and enhance the quality of sound through the program’s in-built equalizer and audio effect tools.

The program allows for dragging and dropping of audio files directly onto the editing window, has CD-burning capability and allows sharing of Advanced Audio Coding files to iTunes and iPods, as well as transferring of audio files to portable music players.

Sony Sound Forge software is compatible with Windows operating systems, from Windows XP Service Pack 3 to Windows 8.
