What is Prism?

The Prism Video Converter Software is a utility from NCH that lets the user take a video whose format uses a DirectShow codec and convert it into another video file format. The program is capable of compressing video files as well, which may come in handy for those who are either attempting to conserve storage space or fitting a large video file into a DVD.

Prism has options that let users’ select specific video parameters to alter during conversion, e.g. frame rate for the converted file and its resolution. It can also create videos and intelligently select the right encoding or compression method to be used for a file based on the preferred size of the output file as specified by the user. Users can get a preview of their output files before actually performing any conversion, which helps conserve system resources by reducing time-wasting mistakes. It also has the ability to take videos from DVDs and convert them, although it is not equipped with the ability to overcome copy-protection on disc media. Finally, it can be installed on both Mac and Windows operating systems.
