If you are looking for MDL Draw, you have come to the right place. We explain what MDL Draw is and point you to the official download.
What is MDL Draw?
MDL Draw is actually just another name for the ISIS/Draw program that was often used by chemistry students and scientists. The “MDL” in the alternative name came from the publisher, which was the MDL Information Systems. The core features of the software were chemistry drafting and rendering: more specifically, it allowed users to compose chemical diagrams on their computer screens. This meant that the program was typically used for illustrating chemical schematics, connections, structures, links and bonds in a visual format. It was so specifically geared for this application, in fact, that it also had calculators for elementary properties in its toolbox.
Part of the reason the program was so widely used was that it was made available for free. MDL Information Systems ceased publishing it around 2002, however, giving it over 10 years of use. That said, the company also released a replacement program named Accelrys Draw, which is still available and in use. Since the replacement program has also been released as a free application, it has once again found itself in common use among members of the academe and students taking up chemistry or related subjects.
