What is LiveMaker3?

LiveMaker3 is a popular visual novel development environment. Visual novels are part-game, part-novel digital illustrated texts that are common in the Japanese market. Since visual novels are technically interactive e-books—many require users to make choices at some point in the story, which can affect the turns the tale takes—they are typically created by those with some level of programming experience (to create the choice/cause-effect relationships in the novels). However, LiveMaker3 gets rid of that requirement by rendering programming experience unnecessary: visual novel development on it is visually-driven. This makes visual novel tools accessible to more creative people.

The program also comes with GraphicsGale, a module for simple frame-by-frame animation, as well as LiveCinema, a more advanced animation engine for those who want something more polished. String selection is simplified as well to clarify action possibilities and outcomes within the project. The user can check whether or not his node selections are appropriate through a live preview window. Furthermore, LiveMaker is free, even for those who are using it to create visual novels they plan to sell.

The program is available only in Japanese.
