iScrobbler

If you are looking for iScrobbler, you have come to the right place. We explain what iScrobbler is and point you to the official download.

What is iScrobbler?

iScrobbler is a program for MAC OS X users who want to participate in the AudioScrobbler non-profit project. AudioScrobbler is a collaborative endeavor from audio end-consumers seeking to provide usage-based song recommendations to other audio consumers. The iScrobbler program fits into this by being responsible for sending in participating users’ audio playlists (as found on their iTunes libraries) to the AudioScrobbler database. This is treated by AudioScrobbler as added data that it can use to better determine patterns in song preference among music or audio consumers. It can also enable the program to send back recommendations for that particular user based on the data it has already collated on users with similar playlists.

While there are other programs that already do this—and not only for song suggestions either—most of them do not actually use data on what others certifiably use or listen for their recommendations. Rather, most of them base it on what others buy: what songs users download from the iStore, for instance. The AudioScrobbler project—and the related iScrobbler app—do not count purchases, but actual “listened-to” songs, by contrast, since the iScrobbler program only sends in playlist data for playlists that are actually being used.
