GSpot Codec Information Appliance

If you are looking for GSpot Codec Information Appliance, you have come to the right place. We explain what GSpot Codec Information Appliance is and point you to the official download.

What is GSpot Codec Information Appliance?

The GSpot Codec Information Appliance, as apparent from the name, is a free utility for Windows platforms that correctly identifies the codecs used in a certain video file, and advises you if you have the necessary codec to play it or DirectShow filters that are required to play it. If you don’t have these installed, the GSpot Codec Information Appliance will give you further information about what you’re lacking and where to find them.

Originally the GSpot Codec Information Appliance only applies to AVI files, and some limited support for other container formats, it essentially evolved to support other formats as well. It was later virtually discontinued in 2007, and another similar tool, MediaInfo, took up the slack and provided a much better and much presentable interface; it also supported the latest and newest video formats, owing to its much more active development life cycle.

The GSpot Codec Information Appliance does not do anything and is actually just a tool to provide relevant information; it is still up to the user to download the necessary codecs and DirectShow filters as required by the video. The tool also analyzes the metadata of the video and provides other interesting information about the file.
