gedit

If you are looking for gedit, you have come to the right place. We explain what gedit is and point you to the official download.

What is gedit?

The gedit application is the text editor used with GNOME desktops. That said, the application is also compatible with the Windows and Mac operating systems. One of its key traits is simplicity, as may be seen in the uncluttered plainness of its interface, but this should not confuse people into thinking it is a “lite” text editor—it is in fact closer to full-featured text editors due to its capabilities and a rich array of plugin options, something that its simple look may not immediately betray.

The application has strong language compatibilities, being able to work with practically of the popular ones from C to Perl. It gives users current line highlighting, spell checking, automated indent, bracket matching, line numbering, and more. It also has a search function that can be used for seeking out and replacing text strings. Users get feature extensibility via plugin support, with some plugins even adding the ability to integrate it with an external terminal. Printing and print options are available, as are multi-level undo and redo commands. Users can also modify the GUI to work with multi-file tabbed editing.
