XZ File
What are XZ files and how to open them
Are you having problems opening an XZ file or are you simply curious about its contents? We're here to explain the properties of these files and provide you with software that can open or handle your XZ files.
What is an XZ file?
An .XZ file is an XZ compressed file.
The .xz file extension is used for LZMA2 compressed files. It is the same compression algorithm used in 7Z files used by 7-Zip. However, XZ files are single compressed files, as the XZ file format does not support archiving (bundling of multiple files into one). In that regard, it is similar to BZIP2 or Z files, but XZ offers a better compression ratio.
How to open XZ files
We have identified four XZ openers that are compatible with this specific type of XZ file.
