Did your computer fail to open an XLSB file? We explain what they are used for and recommend software that we know can open or otherwise handle your .XLSB files.
What is an XLSB file?
An .XLSB file is an Excel Binary Workbook file. The .xlsb file format is used in files created by programs that generate documents using spreadsheets and forms like Microsoft Excel. XLSB stands for "Excel Spreadsheet Binary". XLSB are Excel files that are different from .xlsx (a more common form of Excel Workbook) in terms of formatting and speed. XLSB files contain information that is written or encoded in binary format instead of the typical XML format commonly used in other Excel files. Because XLSB files are in binary format, they can be read and written much faster, making them extremely useful for huge spreadsheets. This characteristic of .xlsb also makes the files faster to calculate, encouraging efficient use of memory storage since the size of .xlsb is smaller compared to .xlsx files.
But here is the catch. If you are using older versions of Microsoft Excel, such as the 2003 version or earlier, they do not support .xlsb files. Also, if you are using other spreadsheet applications besides MS Excel, using .xlsb files with them might cause problems that can render the file unreadable.
