WPJ File
What are WPJ files and how to open them
Are you having problems opening a WPJ file or are you simply curious about its contents? We're here to explain the properties of these files and provide you with software that can open or handle your WPJ files.
What is a WPJ file?
WPJ files have multiple uses, and Microsoft Works Wizard is one of them. Read more about the other uses further down the page.
Microsoft Works Wizard
Microsoft Works Wizard files are configuration or settings files used by Microsoft Works, a discontinued office suite. These files store data for Wizards - interactive setup or project-creating assistants built into Works - holding template options, layout choices, and other user-selections to guide document or project creation.
Microsoft Works produces these .wpj files when launching or saving a Wizard configuration. Users typically open them again inside Microsoft Works to resume or reuse the Wizard settings. These files are not designed as stand-alone documents like text files; their contents drive or define templates and project scaffolding within Works.
Inside the file, the content is stored in XML using UTF-16 encoding. It begins with the XML declaration line, for example "<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-16"?>" followed by nested tags such as myLists, Content, Description, ProjectList and similar schema elements. Such tags help distinguish it from other formats using the .wpj extension.
