Opening WAL files

Did your computer fail to open a WAL file? We explain what WAL files are and recommend software that we know can open or convert your WAL files.

What is a WAL file?

Files that contain the .wal file extension are most commonly associated with the Quake gaming application. The Quake gaming software uses the WAL files to store the game's mapping textures. It then applies the proper textures to walls and other game-related objects within the gaming software.

The .wal file extension is also used to store custom skins that are used by the Winamp media program. Winamp is a multimedia player that allows users to play audio and video media on their computers. The software player was developed by Nullsoft. The skins contained in the WAL files change the look and feel of a user's Winamp interface, allowing users to customize their application environment.

Try a universal file viewer

In addition to the products listed above, I would suggest that you try a universal file viewer like Free File Viewer. It can open over 200 different types of files - and very likely yours too! Download Free File Viewer.
