What are VI files and how to open them
Are you having problems opening a VI file or are you simply curious about its contents? We're here to explain the properties of these files and provide you with software that can open or handle your VI files.
What is a VI file?
VI files have multiple uses, and LABView Virtual Instrument is one of them. Read more about the other uses further down the page.
LABView Virtual Instrument
LABView (Laboratory Virtual Instrument Engineering Workbench) is a platform which enables the development of custom virtual instruments (VIs) for use in measurement, test, and control systems. LABView Virtual Instrument files usually use the VI file extension as the default. These files contain the source code and visual representation of the virtual instrument created using the LABView software. The VI's are saved in a binary file format and can be opened and edited with LABView.
LABView's graphical programming approach is one of its major advantages. With its simple drag-and-drop interface, users can customize virtual instruments without the need to know traditional text-based programming. Also, LABView includes numerous built-in functions such as data acquisition and analysis, signal processing, and control design.
With LABView, users can create virtual instruments that can communicate with various types of hardware, like cameras, sensors and other instruments. These VI's can be used to generate stand-alone applications compatible with Windows, Linux, and Mac platforms. Furthermore, one can also create web services using it and make them run on real-time or embedded systems.
