Opening VDF files

Did your computer fail to open a VDF file? We explain what VDF files are and recommend software that we know can open or convert your VDF files.

What is a VDF file?

VDF is an acronym for VirtualDub File. Files that contain the .vdf file extension usually hold filter plug-ins for the VirtualDub video capture and processing software application. The VDF plug-ins contained in these files allow for special effects and added file support within the VirtualDub application.

The .vdf file extension is also used for AntiVir virus definition files. These files store information about the viruses that the AntiVir program scans a user's hard drive for.

In some cases, files with the .vdf file extension are used for the Gothic video game series. These files store data that is used by the video game during a user's gameplay experience, such as 3D models, characters and world data.

Try a universal file viewer

In addition to the products listed above, I would suggest that you try a universal file viewer like Free File Viewer. It can open over 200 different types of files - and very likely yours too! Download Free File Viewer.
