UVOPT File

What are UVOPT files and how to open them

Are you having problems opening an UVOPT file or are you simply curious about its contents? We're here to explain the properties of these files and provide you with software that can open or handle your UVOPT files.

What is an UVOPT file?

An .UVOPT file is an UVision V4 Project Options file.

UVision V4 Project Options files (.UVOPT) store configuration settings for Keil's uVision version 4 development environment. These files are created by the IDE each time a µVision V4 project is configured. They define how the project is to be built and debugged, saving user preferences like compiler/debugger settings, which target configuration is active, which files are open in the editor, and trace or breakpoint settings. These files are mandatory for each project (after initial setup) so that the build and debug environment can reproduce the same behavior each time you open the project.

Within µVision V4, .UVOPT is written whenever project options are changed via the Options menu or when setting up a target or group configuration. Upon later opening the project, µVision reads .UVOPT along with the main project file (.UVPROJ) to restore the build and debugging environment. If the .UVOPT file is missing or incomplete, µVision recreates required entries based on defaults or current settings to ensure the project can still open and build.

Files begin with an XML declaration and include identifiers like ProjectOpt elements with schema versions, ToolsetName, TargetName, and many nested option groups (e.g. DebugOpt, OPTFL, OPTHX). The ASCII header includes "uVision Project, (C) Keil Software." The file includes strings such as "PROJECT_OPT.XSD", "ISCURRENTTARGET", "DEBUGOPT", "FLAS" (in context of FLASH), "TOOLSETNUMBER", "TOOLSETNAME", and "UTF-8" among others to mark its internal structure.
