TXZ File

What are TXZ files and how to open them

Are you having problems opening a TXZ file or are you simply curious about its contents? We're here to explain the properties of these files and provide you with software that can open or handle your TXZ files.

What is a TXZ file?

A .TXZ file is an XZ compressed TAR file.

The .txz file extension is used for LZMA2 compressed TAR archive files. XZ uses the same compression algorithm as 7Z files created by 7-Zip, but XZ can only compress single files. It does not support archiving (bundling of multiple files into one) natively, so in that regard, it is similar to GZIP or BZIP2 - but it offers a better compression ratio.

TXZ files are simply TAR files that have been compressed with the XZ utility to reduce their size - similar to when you create TGZ files by compressing a TAR file with GZIP.
