Opening TXF files

Did your computer fail to open a TXF file? We explain what TXF files are and recommend software that we know can open or convert your TXF files.

What is a TXF file?

The .txf file extension is used for a standard data file format, which was created for various accounting tools, financial programs and spreadsheet software. These TXF files are also called tax exchange format files and are generated by accounting applications like the TurboTax software from Intuit, Inc. A .txf file is primarily used to share tax information across multiple workbooks, accounting projects and financial tools with support for the TXF file format.

These TXF files are encoded in plain text format and may also contain layout attributes like tabular templates, equations, formulas and text formatting properties. These .txf files may also contain metadata details that are related to an accounting project or a financial document, which was created using the software that generated the TXF file.

These .txf files can be opened and viewed using the TurboTax software among other accounting and financial applications. This accounting program from Intuit, Inc. can also be used to edit the content of these TXF files. If a .txf file just contains plain text and no special formatting and layout attributes, then standard text editors like Notepad may also be used to open these TXF files.

Try a universal file viewer

In addition to the products listed above, I would suggest that you try a universal file viewer like Free File Viewer. It can open over 200 different types of files - and very likely yours too! Download Free File Viewer.
