What are TWBX files and how to open them

Are you having problems opening a TWBX file or are you simply curious about its contents? We're here to explain the properties of these files and provide you with software that can open or handle your TWBX files.

What is a TWBX file?

A .TWBX file is a Tableau Packaged Workbook file.

The .twbx file extension is associated with packaged document/data files created using the Tableau software package. TWBX is a proprietary file type that is specific to Tableau. The Tableau software package consists of Tableau Desktop, Tableau Server, Tableau Online, Tableau Reader, and Tableau Public. TWBX files are normally used in these applications to help users with their information gathering and analyzing of various business-related aspects.

A normal workbook file is different from a packaged workbook. A normal Tableau workbook file is affixed with .twb. .twbx, on the other hand, is used in typical Tableau "packaged" workbook files. Moreover, a workbook file may consist of only one document, but a packaged workbook should contain at least 2 documents. A TWBX file contains a workbook created by the user using the Tableau Desktop program. It also includes other workbook files embedded by the user into the Tableau packaged workbook. XML-based specifications are used to create .twbx files.
