TMV File
What are TMV files and how to open them
Are you having problems opening a TMV file or are you simply curious about its contents? We're here to explain the properties of these files and provide you with software that can open or handle your TMV files.
What is a TMV file?
TMV files have multiple uses, and 8088 Corruption TMV Video is one of them. Read more about the other uses further down the page.
8088 Corruption TMV Video
8088 Corruption TMV Video files store a special video format created to make full-motion color video play back on original IBM PC hardware (an 8088 CPU) using CGA text mode and simple audio. These files are used by the program 8088 Corruption, developed by Jim "Trixter" Leonard and Sandor "gODjR" Tojzan. They allow video and sound playback even on very low-spec machines by encoding each video frame as text-mode cells and embedding audio data interleaved with video.
The program writes TMV files by transforming a video into 40×25 character text mode frames with each cell carrying an ASCII character plus an attribute defining its appearance. Audio is unsigned 8-bit PCM following each frame's video data. During playback, the player reads the frame, renders the characters and colours in CGA text mode, then plays the chunk of audio, repeating for each frame. The format supports a frame rate determined by dividing the samplerate in the header by the audio chunk size per frame.
TMV files begin with a four-byte ASCII signature "TMAV" at offset zero, followed by a 2-byte samplerate, 2-byte audio chunk size per frame, a 1-byte compression method (currently only zero), a 1-byte count of columns of text characters (currently always 40), a 1-byte count of rows (currently always 25), and a feature bitfield. After the header, frames consist of (charcols × charrows × 2) bytes of video data, then the chunksize bytes of audio PCM. Audio is unsigned, 8-bit PCM sampled at the samplerate.

SoftMaker TextMaker Template
SoftMaker TextMaker Template is a file used to store reusable layout and formatting settings for creating new documents in TextMaker, the word processing component of the SoftMaker Office suite. The template includes things like default fonts, paragraph and character styles, page setup (margins, master pages), headers, footers, and possibly placeholders or fields (such as for name and address) so you don't have to reformat each document from scratch.
TextMaker creates .TMV templates when you design a document layout you'll use multiple times, then save it as a template file. Later, you open that template to start new documents that already have the desired formatting applied. Although .TMV was once the standard template format, newer versions use a format called .TMVX instead, making .TMV legacy. TextMaker still supports opening .TMV files so old templates keep working.
Files in this format begin with a binary header consisting of specific byte values (for example the bytes 4D 56 00 FF 0C 00 0E 00 at offset 0), and further in include strings such as "SOFTMAKER SOFTWARE GMBH", "NORMAL", "ARIAL", "-YA1" and "VERS" that identify the format.
