While WorldMachine Document is a popular type of TMD-file, we know of 5 different uses of the .TMD file extension. Different software may use files with the same extension for different types of data.

TextMaker Document

TextMaker is a word processing application like Microsoft Word, developed by the German company SoftMaker.

Earlier versions of this word processor stored documents in a custom format that uses the TMD file type. Newer versions use DOCX, like Microsoft Word, as default.

MySQL Temporary Data File

MySQL is a freely available open-source relational database. Generally, a database is used to store any kind of information that can later be retrieved by querying the database. It could, e.g., be customer data, product data, financial data, or any data you can imagine.

Once the database has been created, it may need to store some data temporarily. For example, it can be during migration to another database layout, during queries that return many megabytes of data, or in the case of TMD files, when a database table needs to be recreated. In this case, data is stored temporarily in a TMD file.
