What are TLB files and how to open them

What is a TLB file?

TLB files have multiple uses, and Windows Type Library is one of them. Read more about the other uses further down the page.

Windows Type Library

A type library is used by programmers to add features to their programs by embedding a COM object developed independently of their own program. It could be, e.g., a PDF viewer developed by a third-party company that they use to add PDF-viewing capabilities to their app.

The type library contains properties and methods that the developer can use to interact with the code in the COM object. COM objects are also used as an interface layer between program code written in different programming languages. For example, you can call a COM object written in Visual Basic from a C++ Application because it uses a common interface.

How to open TLB files

Important: Different programs may use files with the TLB file extension for different purposes, so unless you are sure which format your TLB file is, you may need to try a few different programs.

We know that one TLB format is SPSS Type Library. We have not yet analyzed in detail what these files contain and what they are used for. We're working on it.
