What are SPL files and how to open them

What is a SPL file?
SPL files have multiple uses, and FutureSplash Animation is one of them. Read more about the other uses further down the page.
FutureSplash Animation
These files are animation files that have been created with the FutureSplash animation software.
FutureSplash was created back in 1995 by FutureWave. The company was later acquired by Macromedia, which itself was later acquired by Adobe. FutureSplash was one of the first online animation formats and laid the grounds for the Macromedia Flash technology.
How to open SPL files
Important: Different programs may use files with the SPL file extension for different purposes, so unless you are sure which format your SPL file is, you may need to try a few different programs.
While we have not verified the apps ourselves yet, our users have suggested ten different SPL openers which you will find listed below.

While FutureSplash Animation is a popular type of SPL-file, we know of 9 different uses of the .SPL file extension. Different software may use files with the same extension for different types of data.
Windows Print Spooler Data
When you print a file in Windows, the print job is handled by the Windows Print Spooler.
The Print Spooler stores a copy of the printed files in a read-to-print raw print format. These files are saved with the SPL extension.
