SCDOC File

What are SCDOC files and how to open them

Are you having problems opening a SCDOC file or are you simply curious about its contents? We're here to explain the properties of these files and provide you with software that can open or handle your SCDOC files.

What is a SCDOC file?

A .SCDOC file is a SpaceClaim Document file.

SpaceClaim Document (.scdoc) files store 3D design projects created by SpaceClaim software. Each .scdoc contains all parts of a CAD model: solids, surfaces, bodies, faces, and edges - along with drawing sheets, markups, and design version information. It is the native format used when saving projects in SpaceClaim.

These files are produced by SpaceClaim (now part of Ansys) during the design process. Once a design has been saved, the .scdoc file is opened later for editing, versioning, review, or exporting to other formats. Architects, engineers, or designers working with SpaceClaim will routinely use .scdoc files to save their work-in-progress or final models.

Technically, a .scdoc file is a ZIP archive compliant with the Microsoft Open Packaging Convention. Inside it are XML and XAML files describing geometry, component hierarchy, thumbnails, rendering settings, drawing formats, and metadata. The file starts with ASCII bytes "PK" at offset 0 and includes internal names like "DOCUMENT.XML", "VERSIONS.XML", "THUMBNAIL.PNG", "CORE-PROPERTIES", "RENDERLIST.XML" among others which identify its structure.
