PhotoMovieMaker / Smilebox Slideshow

PhotoMovieMaker / Smilebox Slideshow (.PMM) files store slideshow project settings: they're not video or image files, but template-based instructions used by Preclick PhotoMovieMaker (also branded with Smilebox) to build photo slideshows. They capture how photos, transition effects, captions, styles, timing, layout, and music combine - not actual media content.

These files are created by Preclick PhotoMovieMaker, a now-discontinued Windows utility. Users assemble a collection of still photos, choose a slide style, transitions, timing, captions, layout, music, and optionally effects. The .PMM file preserves all these choices so the slideshow can later be edited, previewed, or exported to formats like MPEG or burned to disc.

On the inside, a .PMM file is text-based and includes human-readable tags like SLIDESHOW VERSION, TRANSITION TYPE, ASSET LOCATION, FRAMESPEED, STYLE_FLASH, SHOWCAPTIONS, TITLEPAGE and others. The file begins at offset zero with a signature containing ".slideshowversion=" (ASCII) and includes strings such as TIMELINE TIMINGUNIT, STYLE_FLASH, LAYOUTNAME, ARTIST among many.
