Opening PMF files

Did your computer fail to open a PMF file? We explain what PMF files are and recommend software that we know can open or convert your PMF files.

What is a PMF file?

The .pmf file extension is most commonly used for ESRI published map files that are created with the ArcMap map creation software. The PMF files contain read-only versions of map files that are created with ArcMap for the ArcReader software. These allow users who have not paid for the ArcMap software to read maps that have been created with the application. The PMF files can only be read and can not be modified. The data views, navigation, printing, layout, panning and zooming features of the map file can also be limited when the map is saved in the PMF format.

The .pmf file extension is also used for Pegasus Mail attachment files and Sony PlayStation PSP movie files.

Try a universal file viewer

In addition to the products listed above, I would suggest that you try a universal file viewer like Free File Viewer. It can open over 200 different types of files - and very likely yours too! Download Free File Viewer.
