All known file formats using extension .PKM

While GrafX2 Bitmap is a popular type of PKM-file, we know of 2 different uses of the .PKM file extension. Different software may use files with the same extension for different types of data.

PockEmul Session

PockEmul Session files are used by PockEmul, an emulator for vintage pocket computers and scientific calculators. Each session file saves the current state of one or more virtual devices - what models are running, their settings, the contents of their memories, registers, and temporary data - so you can stop and later resume exactly where you left off.

These files are created by PockEmul when you use its "Save Session" or equivalent feature. They store the emulator's in-progress configuration and internal state, including any loaded programs or data. When you later load the session file in PockEmul, it restores all those aspects so your virtual machines continue without needing to manually re-open or re-configure anything.

A technical detail helpful for identifying such files: they normally begin with the ASCII header <session version="2.0" model="… at offset zero, and include identifiers like "SESSION VERSION", "MODEL", "BANK TYPE", "DATAHEX", "MEMORY", "LABEL", "TRUE", "FALSE", and "EMPTY" elsewhere in the file text.
