What are PKG files and how to open them
Are you having problems opening a PKG file or are you simply curious about its contents? We're here to explain the properties of these files and provide you with software that can open or handle your PKG files.
What is a PKG file?
PKG files have multiple uses, and Mac OS X Installer Package is one of them. Read more about the other uses further down the page.
Mac OS X Installer Package
An installer package contains everything needed to install a program on a Macintosh computer. You start the installation by double-clicking on the file. These files can only be run on a Mac, not on a Windows PC.
How to open PKG files
Important: Different programs may use files with the PKG file extension for different purposes, so unless you are sure which format your PKG file is, you may need to try a few different programs.
While we have not verified the apps ourselves yet, our users have suggested ten different PKG openers which you will find listed below.
