What are PIT files and how to open them

What is a PIT file?
PIT files have multiple uses, and Odin Partition Information Table is one of them. Read more about the other uses further down the page.
Odin Partition Information Table
The .pit file extension is used for a firmware file format developed by Samsung. These .pit files are usually found in Samsung mobile phones that run the Android operating system. In this case, PIT stands for Partition Information File - a way for a device to know how to handle a file system. When flashing a firmware update onto your Samsung device, the PIT file contains information about the partitions and volumes that must be created on the device before the firmware itself is written to it. These .pit files do not contain human-readable data. This is why it's best to leave these PIT files alone. Doing this will ensure that these Samsung smartphones' internal memory partitioning functions will continue to work properly. Firmware flashing tools like Odin uses these files.
