Opening PF files

Did your computer fail to open a PF file? We explain what PF files are and recommend software that we know can open or convert your PF files.

What is a PF file?

Files that contain the .pf file extension are used to store Prefetch trace files for Microsoft Windows. The Windows XP operating system uses a management utility that speeds up the Windows start-up process. The PF files store the trace files for the start-up process, allowing Windows to access different parts of its files at different points in the start-up process.

The .pf file extension is also given to files that have been compressed by the Stuffit Deluxe file compression software. These files are password-protected and encrypted in addition to being compressed. This PF file format closely resemble the SIT file format, but the PF files require that the user have a password to decrypt and decompress the compressed file archive.

Try a universal file viewer

In addition to the products listed above, I would suggest that you try a universal file viewer like Free File Viewer. It can open over 200 different types of files - and very likely yours too! Download Free File Viewer.
