What are NCMM files and how to open them

Are you having problems opening a NCMM file or are you simply curious about its contents? We're here to explain the properties of these files and provide you with software that can open or handle your NCMM files.

What is a NCMM file?

A .NCMM file is a NI MASCHINE MIKRO Template file.

NI MASCHINE MIKRO Template files (.ncmm) store user-defined MIDI controller templates for Native Instruments' Maschine Mikro controller. These templates let users configure how each pad, knob, button, fader, or wheel on the Maschine Mikro sends MIDI commands, how pages of controls are organized, which template is selected, and what the last state of each control was. They are used when tailoring the hardware to work with specific software or setups via Native Instruments' Controller Editor.

Such files are produced by the Controller Editor program supplied by Native Instruments. Users open them when creating or selecting templates, save them on their computer for future reuse, or switch among templates to adapt the controller for different applications or instruments. Templates include data on Knob Pages and Pad Pages, the index of the last selected page, and control assignments such as button behavior, shift modifiers, page layout, monitor assignment, and more.

A .ncmm file is identifiable by XML structure starting with the signature <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8" standalone="no"?> followed by a tag related to ni-controller-midi-map. Keywords embedded in the file include MIDI-MAP NAME, REMIX TRIGGER DECK, VELOCITYCURVE, GROUP NAME, PRESSURE10 - PRESSURE16, CONTROLLER MODE, REMIX PLAY MODE, CURRENT_INDEX, FX SELECT, MONITOR 1 - 4, PAD MODE, etc., which define mapping of physical controls to MIDI commands.
