Opening MXDL files

Did your computer fail to open a MXDL file? We explain what MXDL files are and recommend software that we know can open or convert your MXDL files.

What is a MXDL file?

The .mxdl file extension is used for a temporary file format that was developed by Maxthon International Ltd. These MXDL files are incomplete files that have been downloaded from the Internet using the Maxthon software. This program is a multiplatform Web browser.

These MXDL files are converted to the original format of the file as soon as the download has been completed. For example, if a user downloads an AVI video from the Internet using the Maxthon Web browser, then an MXDL file will appear in the local directory that's selected by the user for storing the AVI file download. When the video has been completely downloaded to this local directory, the .mxdl file is converted into an AVI file.

To ensure that the Maxthon Web browser properly continues with file downloads, an MXDL file should be left alone. These are not meant to be opened because incomplete file downloads do not contain human readable data.

Try a universal file viewer

In addition to the products listed above, I would suggest that you try a universal file viewer like Free File Viewer. It can open over 200 different types of files - and very likely yours too! Download Free File Viewer.
