While LZA Animation/video is a popular type of LZA-file, we know of 2 different uses of the .LZA file extension. Different software may use files with the same extension for different types of data.

LZA Compressed Archive

LZA Compressed Archive is a file type used to bundle and compress multiple individual files into a single archive, reducing storage space and making file transfers easier. These archives are written by compression tools such as LhaForge. LhaForge is software that allows creating compressed archives including the LZA type. The archive preserves the original file directory structure and file metadata so that after decompression you get all contained files much as they were before being archived.

Files in this format are typically produced when users need to package many files together, for backup, sharing, or storage. Once an archive is made, it can later be opened by software that supports the LZA Compressed Archive format, restoring all the files within the archive to their original locations and names.

Technically, files begin with a fixed byte signature at the very start: the sequence 0x0C 04 0D 43 68 66 4C 5A 5F 32 in hexadecimal, which in ASCII corresponds to "...ChfLZ_2". The file uses the .LZA extension and is identified via this signature by detection tools.
