LXFML File
What are LXFML files and how to open them
Are you having problems opening a LXFML file or are you simply curious about its contents? We're here to explain the properties of these files and provide you with software that can open or handle your LXFML files.
What is a LXFML file?
A .LXFML file is a LEGO Digital Designer XML Data file.
LEGO Digital Designer XML Data files (extension .LXFML) store the exact description of a 3D LEGO model in plain XML. They are created by LEGO Digital Designer (LDD), which was software used to build virtual models with LEGO bricks, defining every piece's type, color, position, orientation, and how submodels connect. These files are useful when you want a human-readible or editable version of your build for inspection, conversion, or archival.
Typical use involves integrating .LXFML data inside a larger package: the standard .LXF file is a ZIP archive containing IMAGE100.LXFML (the raw XML data) and IMAGE100.PNG (a preview image). The LXFML file itself is sometimes saved and used independently: programs like BrickLink Studio support exporting to .LXFML so you can retain just the XML model description.
Technically, .LXFML files begin with the standard XML declaration signature () and include tags denoting versionMajor, versionMinor, application information, metadata, groups of parts, each part's ID, colour codes, and spatial transformation data for positioning in 3D space.
