Files given the .lnk extension are commonly referred to as "linker files" or desktop shortcuts. These files are most commonly associated with Microsoft Windows and they typically point to an .exe file that is located somewhere else on the user's computer.
When you click a .lnk file shortcut, it launches the program that is associated with the .exe file that the shortcut refers to. The .lnk files will appear on your computer desktop as an icon with a small, curled arrow. These files can be very useful when you want quick access to an application that you use frequently. Instead of navigating to the program from your start menu, you can simply click the .lnk file on your desktop and the application will launch for you automatically.
Unfortunately we have not received enough suggestions for software that can open LNK files yet.
File.org aims to be the go-to resource for file type- and related software information. We spend countless hours researching various file formats and software that can open, convert, create or otherwise work with those files.
If you have additional information about the LNK file format or software that uses files with the LNK suffix, please do get in touch - we would love hearing from you.
