KRT File
What are KRT files and how to open them
Are you having problems opening a KRT file or are you simply curious about its contents? We're here to explain the properties of these files and provide you with software that can open or handle your KRT files.
What is a KRT file?
A .KRT file is a KlickTel Routenplanner Route file.
KlickTel Routenplanner Route files are generated by klickTel's Routenplaner 2009 software when you plan a driving route. These files store all the route data - that is, waypoints, turns, speeds, and map-related information - so you can save your planned journey to use later or view it in the program again. These routes are intended mainly for reference and navigation planning, not for live tracking.
The .KRT files are created only by klickTel's route-planning software. Once a route is saved in this format, it remains static (does not record your actual drive) but preserves the planned route's details so you can re-open, edit, or export it. Although klickTel is the primary program that uses .KRT, other tools like RouteConverter can convert .KRT files into other GPS-friendly formats.
Inside a .KRT file, the data is stored in XML. The file begins with a standard XML declaration using UTF-8 encoding and includes elements that define the route options, points, stations, latitude and longitude fields, speed settings, and other metadata.
