What is a JTV file?

A .JTV file is a JRiver TV file.

A JRiver TV File (extension .JTV) is a video recording file produced by JRiver Media Center for capturing television broadcasts, Internet TV streams, or other live video sources. It works much like a DVR recording: you schedule a show or stream live video, and the software writes the .JTV file so you can watch it later or time-shift (pause, rewind) while live content is still being captured.

JRiver Media Center is the sole program known to create and reliably read .JTV files. Within that application, these files are stored in the program's designated TV recordings folder and managed through its library: after recording, you play the .JTV file through Media Center when you want to view it. Outside of Media Center, support for .JTV is very limited or nonexistent.

The .JTV format is proprietary and binary. It does not have publicly documented internal headers or byte signatures in sources that describe the format in detail. If a file begins with a visible magic number or identifiable header string, that information has not been confirmed in reputable documentation.
