What is a HDUMX file?
A .HDUMX file is a HotDocs User Mapping XML file.
A .HDUMX file is created by HotDocs. It's an XML file used when integrating HotDocs templates with external data sources. Its main role is to define how fields in a data source or database are mapped to the template's variables. The mapping enables third-party applications or scripts to supply data into HotDocs templates or receive updated answers back, based on the template's defined variables.
HotDocs writes these files when a user or developer sets up an Answer Mapping of type "User Answer Source Mapping." Typical steps: authoring the mapping in HotDocs Developer or Workspace by defining a data source, writing SQL or selecting a table or stored procedure, specifying filters, and matching each database column (or query result field) to a HotDocs answer variable. Once saved, the .HDUMX is used at runtime so HotDocs (or an integrated application) knows what database fields connect to what template variables.
The mapping file includes an XML root element
Files with this extension were introduced by HotDocs; they are distinct from publisher mappings (.HDPMX) but serve a parallel purpose for user-level configurations. HotDocs 2009 and later save mapping files in XML format which earlier versions might not read.
